EoFTTC – Bridging the gap between FTTC and full fibre Ethernet
If we take a look at the internet connection scale in terms of quality then it tends to be set up like this; ADSL and Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) are the basic solutions. It then progresses to Ethernet over Fibre to the Cabinet (EoFTTC) followed by Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) and Leased Lines perched atop the tree as the ‘best’ connections.
EoFTTC sits nicely between FTTC and EFM, but with all of our internet requirements seemingly covered by the other premium options it’s often overlooked. Some even view it as nothing more than an expensive version of FTTC. This isn’t the case at all!
The portfolio of business internet products tends to be split into two categories; broadband (including ADSL and FTTC) and Ethernet (EoFTTC, EFM and Leased Lines). Ethernet provides a better quality of internet connection than standard broadband.
So, what does adding Eo to FTTC get you that makes it so much better?
With EoFTTC you’ll receive symmetrical speeds both up and down. This is very beneficial, especially when running large reports which require vast amounts of data to be uploaded.
One issue that often occurs when using non Ethernet connections is poor speeds during peak times. This can happen because the connection is being shared between a number of sites. Using an Ethernet connection takes contention out of the equation, thus eliminating the issue.
Here at DuoCall we offer great SLA’s when it comes to EoFTTC including a 7 hour fix in the unlikely event that your connection goes down.
By adding Ethernet to your FTTC connection, you get many of the benefits of a Leased Line without incurring some of the dearer charges. EoFTTC is a great way to experience the benefits of an Ethernet connection without the need for expensive fibre being laid to your premises. And if you’ve already got an FTTC connection then most of the physical infrastructure already exists! Providing it’s available in your area, EoFTTC needs some serious consideration.
