DuoCall karting championships 2016!
It was that time of the year again where the DuoCall directors were feeling generous, so what better way to treat the team than to take everyone Go Karting?
On Wednesday 3rd August we rounded things off in the office at around 17:30 before heading down to Parkwood Karting to begin the DuoCall Karting Championship 2016.
After suiting up and watching the ‘retro’ safety video, it was time to get out on the track. The competition was laid out in Grand Prix format, which to many of us meant absolutely nothing, but this is how it went:
There would be two groups. Each group would drive a qualifying race to determine start positions in their subsequent heat. After each of the heats had taken place we would again be split in to two groups, this time based on performance in the previous races. Both groups would then take part in their respective 15 lap winner takes all races.
As the races began, it was clear that some people were taking it quite seriously (weren’t they directors…). There were a few corners cut and a lot of kart contact, which the ‘retro’ video explicitly outlines is against the rules. There were points deducted for dangerous driving (well only one of us, James) and rumour has it somebody even brought their own helmet, mentioning no names Andy Ringsell.
The karting was great fun and unsurprisingly our three Directors; James, Andy and Phil came in as the top 3 placed racers. Although in the spirit of things the medals were handed to 4th 5th and 6th place.
After the races we held a small awards presentation at track which largely involved spraying champagne at each other, before heading into Sheffield for some food and drinks.
