Jessops Superheroes 2017 was a huge success!
This year the Sheffield Hospitals Charity (SHC) rebranded their annual fundraiser to ‘Jessops Superheroes’; representing the true heroes helping South Yorkshire’s tiniest patients on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Jessops.
This includes the parents, families and patients on the wing, as well as those showing their support on and off the ward. The overwhelming support was backed up by the amazing turnout for this year’s Superhero event on Sunday 21st May.
The 4th annual event was inspired by the incredible dedication from supporters at the 2016 Buggy Push who dressed up in their best superhero attire. In fact, it was so successful last year the theme carried over to the 2017 fundraiser, and once again we were blown away by the 650 supporters who took part in their incredible costumes.
Coverage of Jessops Superheroes 2017 was shown on ITV calendar following the event.
As expected (and hoped for) Jessops Superheroes 2017 was the most successful event to date and we’re extremely proud to have been a part of it. This is the 3rd consecutive year DuoCall have been the official supporters of the event and we’ve been blown away by the ever-increasing support for the NICU.
Phil Coley (DuoCall director) said, “It’s great to be supporting the event for the third consecutive year; it’s always a pleasure to work so closely with the Sheffield Hospitals Charity and we’re delighted to see this event be so successful once again. As we established from last year the superhero theme goes down fantastically with all the families and the new venue seems to have encouraged more people to get involved. We’re already thinking about next year!”
So far the Charity has raised a staggering £31.5k from sponsorships and donations; this number is expected to continue to grow over the coming weeks. We want to take this opportunity to thank all those that helped DuoCall and the SHC support the maternity hospital, you are the real heroes!

About Jessops Superheroes 2017
This year’s event was bigger and better than ever before. The Superhero event saw a new venue, new theme and even more activities (and entertainment) including DuoCall’s penalty shootout, Minimovez Pre School Fitness, Rachel’s Magical Entertainment and Hullabaloobell Parties. Other activities included face painting, a ukulele workshop and crafts.
The actual event was a sponsored 2.5k or 4k walk around Graves Park; the money raised will help develop care and services for the thousands of babies born at the hospital each year. Although 2017’s event wasn’t called a ‘buggy push’ SHC stayed true to their roots. It didn’t matter if you wanted to push a buggy, ride a bike, do it on a space hopper or even hop on a pogo stick, everyone was welcome to take part.
Meet our winners!
This year we hosted our very own DuoCall penalty shootout at Jessops Superheroes 2017. Our idea was plain and simple; donate to take 2 penalties, score a goal and be in with a chance of winning a signed Sheffield United or Sheffield Wednesday shirt! The shirts were kindly donated by Sheffield United Football Club and the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme, and were framed by Matrix Frames who did a fantastic job.
DuoCall’s penalty shootout was extremely popular (and competitive!) and helped raise a further £70.00 for the charity. Here are our winners…
More about the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Jessops
Patients in all of the Sheffield Teaching Hospital sites are being treated for almost any condition that you can think of. These patients are supported by the Sheffield Hospitals Charity (SHC), an official NHS charity.
The SHC invests over £2 million every year in order to enhance the care and treatment of patients that use Sheffield Hospitals. The Charity directs its aid at improving patient care and support, developing the hospital environment, providing the most advanced specialist medical equipment, and by supporting pioneering research into the cause and prevention of key illnesses.
Just one of the units that the SHC supports is the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Jessops Hospital. The NICU supports thousands of families every single year through all stages of pregnancy. This includes conception all the way through to care after birth. With over 8000 babies born at the hospital each year, Jessops helps care for around 800 critically ill and premature babies with the assistance of the Sheffield Hospitals Charity.
Constant 24 hour care is required in order to help families get through the stressful period of caring for their newly born child. The number of babies who need the Jessop wing’s specialist support is increasing as more and more children are transferred to the hospital from across the county and the country!
It’s not too late to donate!
