Tracy Haycox, Director of Children and Young People’s Services said:
"We’re delighted to win the Barnsley and Rotherham Chamber Charity of the Year Award in recognition of our work with young runaways. SAFE@LAST works with children who run away from home and who are incredibly vulnerable and at risk of becoming victims of crime, being sexually exploited, missing education, abusing drugs and alcohol and becoming estranged from their families. We’re looking forward to working with the Chamber and its members to raise awareness of the issues young runaways face and to work together to keep them safe.”
She added “We will use the prize money to purchase USB wristbands to be distributed through our Education and Prevention Project which works to educate and inform children and young people about the risks of running away and where they can turn for support. The wristbands will be branded to promote the SAFE@LAST helpline and data and links will also be loaded onto the USB with useful information for young people."
